Read Luke 5:27-39

What is it saying?

Verse 30-33: “Why eat with sinners?” Why do life with sinners?” The point of our salvation is to reachback to others. We were not called to merely sit back and enjoy the fruit of Christ's sacrifice with others like us( believers), but we must accompany those who are lost and do not know Christ. The Pharisee asked Jesus in this verse, why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”, Jesus said” the healthy do not need a doctor, but the sick do”. How can we help the lost if we only want to stay connected with those who already know him or stay connected to those who are not lost? Jesus came and showed the world the right way to live and to bear with others.

Verse 34-35 : “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast, while he is still with them? But a time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, then they will fast.” This verse reiterates the  importance of fasting- to be closer, to hear from the bridegroom while he is away. The disciples had no reason to fast while Jesus was with them, but when he left them, they needed to a way to center themselves to hear clearly from him.

Favorite verse and why?

Verse: 36-39: No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’ ”

I love this verse, because it focuses on the key purpose of Jesus's return. "To make all things new". These verses can be summed up in one sentence, " The new can not be made old, but the old can always be made new". Why? Well Jesus said it, Why tare a new garment to patch up an old one, it only destroys whats new and makes the old look misplaced. Instead, throw away the old garment and use a new one. That's what Jesus promised to do for us, make the old new again. When you think about it is a pretty difficult process to try and make something that is new, old. Simply, because when something is new, there are no preset limitations for it , it has no model to follow, it is what it is and has the capability to become what it desires to become. Its newness can not be imitated by the past, because there is no trace of the past to be found in it.

Read Genesis 1

What is it saying?
Chronological descriptions of God putting the earth into motion. A depiction of God speaking and “what was not became”.

What lessons did I learn?

When God speaks he makes what is not a reality. God is strategic in all that he does.
Verses 11-12.
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

God’s strategy was to set the world into motion in way that the world would reproduce itself .

Favorite verse and why?

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

I love this verse, because it tells us that we are made in the image of God. Not only are we made in the image of God,but we are made in his likeness. Likeness means resemblance. I think that likeness could mean resemblance in character. What is the character of God? It’s the fruits of the holy spirit- love , joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Read Genesis 2

What is it saying?

After the 6th day, God rested. This sections describes the beauty of the garden of eden and the richness of place that Adam ruled over. While Adam ruled over all that God created for him, God saw that Adam needed a helpmate, “for is not good that man shall be alone, I will make a helper suitable for him”, says God. God instructed Adam and his helpmate to eat of all of the fruits of the land, but they should not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for once they do they will surely die.

What lessons did I learn?

If God can rest ,so can I.
Verse 3-4: By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

God rested after he worked. Sometimes, it is easy for us to get so caught up in all that we have to do that we do not make time to rejuvenate ourselves. If God can make time to relax, being that any work that he has done will always supersede anything that we can every create or imagine, then it shouldn't be that hard for us to relax too.

Favorite Verse and Why?
Verse 23: The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

I like this verse, because it relates the true intent of a  man and woman relationship. In a day and age when , gender roles are all bent out of shape, this verse is a reminder that gender plays an important role and that it is must deeper phenomena than how our world views it today.
